A factory opening press plan should explain what is operational now, why it matters and who can answer questions about it. For an international manufacturer approaching The New Standard for public relations support in Brazil, the useful starting point is an approved fact pack, a clear interview plan and named owners for the press operation. Use the worksheet below to turn the opening into a story journalists can assess.

Define the announcement before planning the press visit

Write one sentence explaining what the company is announcing: a new operating plant, an expansion, a production line or a future investment. Separate the opening ceremony from the start of operations. If production will ramp up in stages, distinguish current capability from future plans and identify which dates are confirmed.

Then connect the announcement to an audience question. What changes for customers, the local operation or the wider sector? Support the answer with approved facts. A company assertion about jobs, capacity, technology or environmental performance needs an internal evidence owner before it enters the release.

For the wider agency scope, use our PR agency briefing template. This plan addresses the specific materials, people and decisions needed for the factory press operation.

Build a press kit that answers concrete questions

Prepare a concise release, a site fact sheet, an explanation of the product or process, approved spokesperson biographies and usable images. Include a contact for follow-up questions. Give every document a version date and approval owner.

  • Investment: Confirm the amount, currency, period covered and what is included. Distinguish committed investment from a future proposal.
  • Operations: Explain what is opening now, what it will produce and how it fits the company’s existing operations.
  • Local relevance: Include substantiated facts about the location, employment or supplier relationships where disclosure is approved. Label estimates and future plans clearly.
  • Technical context: Explain specialist terms in plain language and identify the person who can verify technical questions.
  • Images: Supply approved photographs with captions, names where appropriate, dates, credits and usage permissions. Confirm which areas or details cannot be photographed.

Keep the Portuguese material and any headquarters-language version aligned. A translated investment figure must retain its currency and scope. Do not let an older biography or image circulate alongside the current release without a clear reason.

Use this launch worksheet to assign responsibility

Copy the table into a shared working document. Complete each row with the actual source, responsible person and agreed timing. The entries below are planning fields, not client data.

Site management sets physical access and safety requirements. Ask it to confirm visitor arrangements, permitted photography and the on-site contact. The communications plan should record those decisions and communicate them to the relevant participants.

Match the press approach to the question being answered

Business journalists may need the investment rationale and the company’s position in the sector. Specialist journalists may need a precise explanation of the production process or customer application. Local journalists may focus on the site and substantiated local impact. International journalists may need the Brazil decision placed in the group’s wider operations.

Use those questions to choose relevant outlets and prepare suitable evidence. Agree who handles invitations, confirmations, interviews, image requests and unanswered questions. Keep a single record of press commitments so headquarters and the local team can see what has been promised.

Does a visiting global executive need language support?

Confirm the journalist’s and executive’s preferred languages and the interview format. Where language support is needed, arrange it in advance and give the interpreter approved terminology and context. Allow time for interpretation and identify who can resolve a technical question after the conversation.

Should an interview take place under embargo?

An embargoed interview can be considered when the story and spokesperson are ready ahead of the public announcement. Confirm whether the journalist agrees to the proposed conditions, including the exact release time and time zone. An embargo and an exclusive are different arrangements; agree the scope explicitly and coordinate other outreach accordingly.

A documented industrial example: Gestamp in Piracicaba

For the opening of Gestamp’s eighth plant in Brazil, The New Standard ran the press operation and arranged an interview with executive president Francisco Riberas for Valor Econômico under embargo. The published Gestamp case reports 24 pieces of coverage across online, radio and print media.

The example shows how an industrial opening can support a business story and a substantive executive interview. For your own launch, decide which facts and spokesperson access make the announcement useful to the intended audience.

What can an agency responsibly promise?

A proposal can specify preparation, outreach, staffing, interview coordination and reporting. Journalists make their own attendance and publication decisions. Define the work, dependencies and approvals in the scope, then use our agency evaluation guide for supplier-selection questions and our PR agency cost guide for the budgeting discussion.

Close the press operation with a usable record

Record each coverage URL or reference, outlet, publication date, audience relevance, factual accuracy, message inclusion and agreed next step. Track outstanding journalist questions separately with an owner and a response deadline. Keep a record of corrections requested and the evidence supplied.

Report coverage output separately from qualified enquiries or sales outcomes. If commercial teams receive enquiries after the opening, record the source where known and avoid assigning all subsequent activity to the press campaign.

Contact The New Standard with the factory location, opening date, sector and communications objective. Mention whether a global executive will attend and which facts or approvals are still outstanding so the conversation can focus on the work needed.
